Once I know they’re not feeling anything, then I let them know, “Okay, we’re gonna start with this procedure and then at any time during the procedure if you feel uncomfortable, you need a chance to relax your jaw, raise your left hand. The left hand is how we communicate with you. The minute you raise that left hand, we give you a break or whatever you need.” That’s the way that we let patients know that they are in control and that we wanna make sure that they go through the procedure without any issues.
Most of the time when we do this, most patients are very surprised about how much more straightforward it was than they were expecting. Afterwards, I take certain precautions when I take teeth out. I try to be as least invasive as possible. What that means is, the less I have to do, the less sensitivity you will have afterwards. Everybody’s gonna have some sensitivity afterwards, but I do everything I can to make it comfortable and not just while you’re in the office, but after you leave the office.
