Traditional dentures have been around for many years. Sometimes, that is the best option for a patient. Patients that don't have very much bone to support implants, they're good candidates sometimes for dentures, and patients that financially are not ready to commit to a treatment plan that has implants in it, dentures could be a good way to restore their teeth so that they can chew. Sometimes, just because you get a traditional denture today, it doesn't mean you can't place implants down the road to convert that denture, traditional denture, to an implant supported denture. There is a lot of good options for traditional dentures, and now, these days, we do also partial dentures that don't have metal in them and that are made out of flexible materials that are a lot more comfortable for patients. These materials have been around for the last five, six years, and the nice thing about some of these materials is that sometimes if you lose an additional tooth, we can add a tooth to that denture. Some of the older materials, we weren't able to do that.
I've had patients that have had a traditional wire partial denture on the lower teeth, and they think it's just uncomfortable and it doesn't look very nice when they smile. They see the wires. Now, with these metal-less, without metal, partial dentures that are a flexible material, they're a lot more comfortable. They're more pleasing to ... When you look in the mirror, you don't see those old metal clasps in there, and the patients just love them. Some people are great candidates for those. Dentures have changed a lot. There's also some changes going on in dentistry where we're able to use more what we call computer technologies to shorten the amount of visits that it takes to deliver or to make a traditional denture.
