Dentists always tell their patients that an excess of certain foods will mean terrible news for their teeth. This is true, but a June 10, 2014 Daily Mail article begs dentists to reconsider as science has found a rather interesting discovery:
“Brazilian scientists have found that a certain type of coffee bean has an anti-bacterial property.
If it is drunk strong, black, without sugar, and in moderation, it could help keep teeth health.
Scientists at Rio de Janeiro’s Federal University tested extracted baby teeth with an extract from Coffea canephora, a type of bean that makes up 30 per cent of the world’s coffee.
They found that the coffee actively broke down bacterial biofilms which cause dental plaques, a major cause of tooth decay.
Lead researcher Andréa Antonio said: ‘Dental plaque is a classic complex biofilm and it’s the main culprit in tooth decay and gum disease.
The researchers think that polyphenol antioxidants in the coffee were probably responsible for the effect, but said more research is needed to establish a direct link.”
The article also mentions similar findings by the Tokyo University of Pharmacy and Life Sciences on hop leaves. These findings just may change the landscape of Mesa dental health for many, but going to a reliable practice will still be necessary.
Antonio warned coffee drinkers that beverages loaded with sugars and creams will cancel out any benefit the drink provides. Besides this practice, there are other habits that can make dental health difficult, such as: improper brushing and flossing, using a hard-bristled toothbrush, and using teeth as tools can deteriorate the condition of the tooth.
In order to combat the development of dental problems like periodontitis and dental carries, people must be active in taking care of their teeth. Regular and thorough brushing and flossing will ensure high dental health. Cutting down on sugary foods and alcohol will protect the teeth as well.
Moreover, it is important for Mesa residents to visit a reputable Mesa dental center to help keep their teeth healthy. A dental practice like Alluring Smiles will impede and prevent the development of dental disease and keep the mouth healthy.
Low intake on sugary foods and drinks can only do so much. It is important for those truly concerned about their teeth to consult a reliable dentist to help keep their mouths in check.
